Good to know
- Unlimited protection has applied since 2008 amendments to the Financial Institutions Act.
- Covers deposits at provincially regulated B.C. credit unions wherever the depositor lives.
- BCFSA notes the guarantee is not an obligation of, or backstopped by, the provincial government.
- Coast Capital — which absorbed Prospera and Sunshine Coast on May 6, 2026 — is a federal credit union insured by CDIC, not CUDIC. Deposits made before that date kept transitional coverage at the B.C. level (demand deposits for 180 days; term deposits to maturity).

How BC compares with CDIC
British Columbia credit union deposits have no dollar cap, while CDIC covers up to $100,000 per category at each member. A federal credit union in British Columbia would be CDIC-insured instead.
